The examples are in our enterprise codebase that augment this functionality in certain ways.

However, sometimes it makes more sense to add code in an extension handler even in specific implementations. For instance, FormBuilderExtensionHandler in the admin is easier than add a controller override to just modify some of the display of form fields for a class.
