Restricting searches by product category

I'm trying to work out how to restrict searches so that they only return results in a certain category, but I'm not having much luck. For example, something like: Give me all books that have 'Bell' in the title.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

You're going to need to subclass the SolrSearchService and extend it to provide your own funcitonality.

There are two methods in there of note,

public ProductSearchResult findProductsByQuery(String query, ProductSearchCriteria searchCriteria)

query = "searchable:*" + query + "*"; // Surrounding with * allows partial word matches
...
}


You'll need your own method that takes in a query and a category, and then builds a solr query string that hits both the "searchable" and "category" fields.

Something like this:

That's exactly the solution I implemented earlier today. I was about to add a response here describing it myself, and it's nice to have confirmation that I've gone about it in the correct fashion.
