wat additional features people normaly extends from default?

HI,
I just wanna one basic question.. actually iam not a big code, but iam still leanring..
I just followed 'Getting Started' instructions and I can able to see the outout (Heat Clinic site)..I just felt that code has been ready-made for us... and I think we could build applications just like that just in 1-2 months (I guess)
My Doubt: When everything is ready-made , what really people need changes in this exisitng broadleaf source code..?
I mean what additional ( or extending ) features company needs apart from default features provided by default..
Can you please tell me some list..? I just want to know this, as I was just curious about it..
for eg: pepboys.com , i seen their website, i just felt they just changed UI... So, Apart from UI, what addiitonal things they've extended from this default source code? (Can you please name those.. )
